Hi Mama,
As you know, it’s my mission to help moms feel less lonely and more confident as they embark on their journey through motherhood. I want to build a safe space and a community around this blog for all moms, new and seasoned. So I thought, what better way to do that then to actually feature moms and their stories here on the blog!
Everyday Moms is a weekly interview series where I will be sharing experiences from moms all around the world! I hope that this series will allow moms to express themselves and their feelings, and to also help you feel like you’re not alone as you navigate the ups and downs of motherhood.
If you wish to be featured on the blog, click here to submit responses to the Everyday Moms interview questions. I look forward to sharing your story with the world!
Today we will be hearing from Everyday Mom, Becki, a first time mom who recently gave birth to her darling daughter, Daisy!
Everyday Moms: Becki’s Story
“It’s okay to ask for help, we are all human and it’s a huge adjustment to become a mom and to be responsible for another life!”
Tell us about your family
Hi, my name is Becki. I am a stay-at-home mom which has always been my dream job and my husband is a freelance concept artist! We met in 2011 and were just friends for way too long but eventually got together and got married in 2018! We live in Calgary, Alberta Canada and we absolutely love it! We are so close to the rocky mountains. We are brand new parents and loving it!
When did you become a mom?
February 25th, 2020
What have been your favorite memories/moments from motherhood?
The first time I held Daisy the second after she was born is and always will be one of my fondest memories. It was so surreal and magical and I will always remember it! I remember nothing of those first few minutes except for the way she looked, and felt. I didn’t care about anything else that was going on in the room. Another great memory was the first time she smiled at me (and it wasn’t a reflex!) there’s nothing quite like the big wide gummy smile.
What has been your biggest struggle as a mom?
For me, the biggest struggle in transitioning into motherhood was lack of sleep. People always told me about me and I kind of brushed it off, but it really hit me hard. I was used to going to bed whenever I wanted and then waking up the next morning… I wasn’t prepared to be woken up multiple times a night to feed. Daisy has finally started to only wake up once in the night now and my body has adjusted to my new sleep schedule and I’m starting to feel more human!
What advice do you have for other moms out there, such as something you wish you knew before you became a mom?
It’s hard. The first month was very hard. But it’s so worth it, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel! I personally wasn’t prepared for how exhausting and frustrating it was going to be. But it does get easier!
Anything else you wish to share about your motherhood experience?
It’s okay to not be okay, I had a hard time admitting when I needed help or when I needed just 5 minutes to collect myself and had to hand my baby off to my husband or my mom. It’s okay to ask for help, we are all human and it’s a huge adjustment to become a mom and to be responsible for another life!
I hope that you enjoyed reading Becki’s journey as a first time mom. I agree with her, that gummy smile is one of my favorite moments of being a mama to my girl Mia as well!
I’ll be sharing more stories each week as I receive them so be sure to subscribe to the email list on the left-hand side of the page if you want to be notified of new posts. You can also follow me on Instagram where I share my motherhood journey every day.
