Everyday Moms: Yessica’s Story
Trying to get two completely different human beings on a “schedule” is tough. Having two babies crying at the top of their lungs can be very stressful and scary!
Tell us about your family
Hi, my name is Yessica. I live in New Jersey, currently work part-time as a Paralegal. I have a step-son, Nicholas and fraternal twins, boy and girl, Matias and Mila. It never ran through my mind the possibility of having twins until after we gave the news to our families and turns out twins run in my family and in my husbands!
When did you become a mom?
October 4th 2019
What have been your favorite memories/moments from motherhood?
Watching them grow and change. It will never stop to amaze me how fast they grow and all of their changes not only physically but also developmental. Seeing them each week start a new sound, a new face expression, a new movement makes me feel whole.
What has been your biggest struggle as a mom?
As a twin mom there’s a lot of struggles. The sleepless nights has to be the biggest of all. Trying to get two completely different human beings on a “schedule” is tough. Having two babies crying at the top of their lungs can be very stressful and scary !
What advice do you have for other moms out there, such as something you wish you knew before you became a mom?
I wish I had educated my self on postpartum depression. It’s a real thing, and can become very scary. My advice is to read on it, and speak up ! Even if it’s just with your significant other and of course they don’t know what the heck we are talking about but just to have someone listen to your roller coaster of emotions helps.
Anything else you wish to share about your motherhood experience?
I always dreamt of breast feeding and having a fridge filled with milk for my baby. Once I found out I was having two babies instead of one, feeding two mouths instead of one I hesitated. I decided to give it a chance but reality hit and truthfully it was too hard for me. I became upset with myself because I felt like I was letting them down. I felt like as a mother we are designed to feed our children. But for me feeding two was extremely difficult, it was very stressful, and my milk supply did not meet their needs. This was a rough time for me and making this decision but its ok. And it is ok.! Not every mom can breast feed and it’s ok!
I hope that you enjoyed reading Yessica’s story. I know I’ve had my fair share of struggles as a first time mom with only one baby, I can’t imagine two! But Yessica is strong and meant to be a mommy to her two sweet angels. Thanks for sharing with us!
